Atoka Main Street is a small program with only one Part Time employee, who is the Director. However, without all of the unnamed volunteers and the Atoka Main Street Board of Directors there would be nothing. Main Street is funded and supported by the community. We have corporate sponsors, business members, individual members and student members that give financially each year to help support and sustain all that Atoka Main Street does in the Main Street district.

Carey Smith– Director

Originally from a Main Street community our Director is no stranger to small towns. She has lived in 9 different states throughout her life. Some big towns and some small. Working with people has always been one of the joys of her jobs she has held over the years, which makes working with Main Street even more exciting to her. Carey has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She has worked in various fields since graduating including OKDHS, Mental Health Services and in education at SOSU. The mother of 5 was looking for a way to give back to the small community she now calls home. When the Atoka Main Street position came open , she knew this was a way to do just that.

Wading her way through the ins and outs of Main Street has been challenging in the first few months, as well as getting to know all of her Main Street businesses. Getting out and meeting business and building owners can be a challenge with so many having other jobs other. She is trying to keep up with the downtown businesses FaceBook pages, but has found it challenging with some who haven’t updated in a while.
